Dear CAC friends and leaders:
As you know, Hurricane Harvey has made landfall in Texas and is causing widespread flooding and damage across southern Texas; some areas are expected to receive three feet of rain. UCC Disaster Ministries is monitoring the situation and is in contact with the South Central Conference as well as governmental agencies.
Zach Wolgemuth, our Disaster Ministries Executive, is already gearing up for a long-term and holistic recovery effort. In the wake of a major disaster we typically remain engaged for a period of 3 to 5 years addressing a variety of needs with special concern for the most vulnerable.
The Disaster Ministries page of the UCC website will be updated regularly with information as the disaster continues to unfold, the first installment is up now: http://www.ucc.org/disaster_hurricane_harvey
We are asking for prayers, for donations and, as the long-term recovery takes shape,
we will also ask for volunteers.
To give on-line CLICK our DONATE button on the CAC Homepage.
If you prefer to donate by mail, make checks payable to United Church of Christ, with "Hurricane Harvey" in the memo. Mail to: United Church of Christ c/o Financial Services, 700 Prospect Ave E, Cleveland, OH 44115-1100
At General Synod we launched the “Three Great Loves” initiative: love of neighbor, love of children, and love of creation. May our response to Hurricane Harvey be an indication of the depth of our commitment in each of these areas. May God be with those in the affected area, and may we stand with them now and in the future.
